STAMP
ACTS . . .
What do writers always have too many
of? Returned SASEs. Have you ever wished there was
something useful you could do with them? There is
something useful you can do with the stamps on all
those envelopes. Actually, there are two things you
can do with them.
You can support world literacy by sending
interesting stamps to The Wycliffe Stamp Club, 16131
N. Vernon Drive, Tucson, AZ 85739
The proceeds from the stamp sales are
used for emergency funds for their overseas literacy
and translation work. If you are interested in stamps
for a personal collection, the same address will
also get you a catalogue of their stamp collections.
They don’t want LOVE or Christmas stamps. They
ask that you leave a quarter inch of paper around
the edge of the stamp. I have found that finding
interesting stamps can add a little fun to my too-frequent
trips for stamps.
What if you don’t have the time
to find interesting stamps? Then you can send them
to Stamps for Children, 27 Pine Street, Lincroft,
NJ 07738-1827
This organization sends stamps to children’s
groups all over the U.S. for use in collections and
arts and crafts. Their guidelines are: no damaged
stamps, leave a little paper around the stamp and
don’t send stamps on red or green paper.
Helping these wonderful organizations
may make you appreciate rejection letters or at least
the envelopes they come in.
