FOURTH PLACE
Another Time – Another Place
By Jeanette Oestermyer
Roswell, New Mexico
(Poetic Form: Rondeau Redouble)
What happened to the love that we once knew
before the world turned upside-down and fell?
A love that seemed so perfect, pure and true,
now dangles in the space half way to Hell.
Today the bells ring out a sacred knell
that echoes to the clouds as sun breaks through,
our vows you tossed like gems to buy or sell.
What happened to the love that we once knew?
Inside that chapel, resting on each pew,
the tender words we spoke, as ghosts now dwell.
A song of legend brings sweet dejavu,
before the world turned upside-down and fell.
I search upon an ocean’s mighty swell,
I look inside a rose through drops of dew.
How could the ancient prophets not foretell
a love that seemed so perfect, pure and true?
I walk on broken streets, old dreams pursue,
a dead-end path, deserted, lorn hotel.
The love somehow we lost, but sadly rue,
Now dangles in the space half way to Hell.
Still trapped within the mystic of your spell,
I pray that in some transport, trace of you,
my empty soul refill, my hurting quell,
or new-found hope may bid dark dreams adieu.
What happened to the love?
