SECOND PLACE
Riding on a Ribbon
By Fred Venturini
Patoka, Illinois
Freedom tempts me.
The very fabric of the sky lifts me, exhilarates me.
I reach for the very edges of the Earth,
But I can only reach.
I can move and stretch and fly,
But I cannot truly move.
Yet I can pray.
I pray for the hand of God to stir a legendary wind.
I pray for a stray limb.
I pray for something, anything,
As long as it severs the string that binds me.
